5 Months!

I can’t believe how quickly this month flew by! At the beginning of the month we hit a new phase of awareness/cognition and suddenly everything is so interesting. It’s hard to feed her in public (or even the living room) and getting a nap while out and about is nearly impossible. She just can’t help herself!

She still sleeps really well at night, as long as I make sure to feed her in a dark, quiet room for several feedings during the day. I learned that the hard way when she tried to make up for her distracted daytime eating by eating all night. She’s slowly moving up her bedtime zonk out time usually she’s out for the night at about 10/10:30.

I was just about to throw in the towel for awhile with cloth diapering but then she hit another sweet spot and suddenly she’s easy to diaper. Whew! I still pretty much do cloth at home or for quick outings and paper diapers for our longer outings and nights. She is still on the second rise snap but with 6-8 snaps showing in the width.

She is still wearing a few 9 month clothes but depending on the brand and the tightness of the pants/legs she’s mostly in 6-12 months or 12 months.

Hudson loves Mama and despite daddy’s efforts she tends to be most content with me or at the very least watching me. She continues to enjoy her activity table and loves when the big kids play peek-a-boo, read to her or just make silly noises and movements. She doesn’t cry very often but when she’s getting upset she makes a worried wimpery, fussy noise or she straightens and tenses up her body and blows hard raspberries.

I think teeth must be on the horizon, although not too soon, her gums aren’t swollen or bumped yet but she sure chews pretty intently and she traded spit up for drool - mostly. She still pegs me with spit up now and then. Often enough that I still carry a burp cloth and usually end up using it.

4 Months

This girl is g r o w i n g!  She is 27” long and 20lbs!!! She blew through 3-6 and 6 month clothes in a matter of weeks. She’s solidly in 9 month or 12 month, and some 6-12 or 12-18 months , depending on the brands. Only trouble with most of our 9 and 12 month clothes (mostly Carters) is that they’re skinny, as if the baby has been moving and slimming down but this girl is still full of rolls and thick around! She’s also long, so the clothes are not too long but they’re hard to get up past her thighs or around her waist! I’ve sorted through all our bins and found a handful of outfits that fit her.

In the past month Hudson has rolled from her back to her front and although she is just as smiley and happy, she’s also a little more alert. She watches us and laughs at specific things. She anticipates your tickle and laughs before you get there. The funniest thing is that she laughs when you fake cough. She definitely prefers to be with Mama but she LOVES watching her brother, sister and daddy.

She likes her floor gym, particularly the mirror part and she tolerates the bouncer but she really loves her activity center. And to think I almost didn’t get one. I don’t know how I’d make dinner sometimes if it weren’t for that.

Three Months

This girl just keeps getting sweeter and sweeter! This month has been filled with more smiles and lots of giggles! She’s awake for longer periods and has finally grown out of the late night ‘witching hour’ period. Speaking of growing, this girl is just over 15 lbs! She’s roly-poly and completely grown out of 3 month clothes, pushing the limits on 3-6 months and comfortably wearing 6 months size.

She’s so entertaining to sit and watch her or talk to her and she wakes up so happy, especially in the morning. She’s still sleeping pretty well for naps and she’s keeping that longer stretch at night, which I love. She still doesn’t really love getting bathed but does tolerate diaper changes much better now. Getting dressed is a pretty mixed bag though.

She got a spin and bounce thing as an early Christmas present and really she’s too young for it but she enjoys it for a few minutes here and there. I can tell she’ll really love it once she’s strong enough to be in it longer. She still has a knack for wanting to eat when I’m eating (don’t they all) and is generally happier in the morning and afternoon compared to evening still (particularly when I’m making dinner). She takes shorter naps in evenings and wants to be held more or walked around. She’s also less patient with the over-affection from big bro and sis, to the point she’s not too keen when they get too close to her face or try to hold her.

This month has been pleasantly low-key in our day-to-day and aside from Thanksgiving we’ve been hike a lot which means less sleeping baby in the sling but more time to sit and play when she’s awake. She really is a pretty happy, easy-going baby, overall.
